Highlights

  • Surgery begins with removal of posterior lamina papyracea to identify periorbita.
  • Diamond burr is used on long-handled drill to thin bone along optic canal.

Keep in Mind/Things to Remember:

  • Decompression usually extends for a distance of 10 mm within the sphenoid.
  • Incision of the optic nerve sheath is usually not necessary.
