Endoscopic Resection of Septal Spur Part 1 of 2

Indications:

  • Nasal obstruction
  • Need for improved surgical access prior to ESS

Highlights:

  • Steps are similar to those for a standard septoplasty performed with a headlight; however, visualization (particularly of the posterior septum) is improved.
  • Routine septoplasty instruments can be used with the endoscope.
  • Initial incision is made through mucosa posterior to mucocutaneous junction (referred to as a “high septal incision”).

Keep in Mind/Things to Remember:

  • Extreme caudal deflections can be difficult to correct.
  • Best to learn this technique on posterior deflections
