Endoscopic Resection of Septal Spur Part 2 of 2
Indications:
- Nasal obstruction
- Need for improved surgical access prior to ESS
Highlights:
- Steps are similar to those for a standard septoplasty performed with a headlight; however, visualization (particularly of the posterior septum) is improved.
- Routine septoplasty instruments can be used with the endoscope.
- Initial incision is made through mucosa posterior to mucocutaneous junction (referred to as a “high septal incision”).
Keep in Mind/Things to Remember:
- Extreme caudal deflections can be difficult to correct.
- Best to learn this technique on posterior deflections
