Endoscopic Laser DCR
Indications:
- Epiphora
- Chronic dacryocystitis
Highlights:
- The maxillary line is an important intranasal landmark for identification of the lacrimal sac
- Endoscopic visualization of lacrimal probes passed by an assistant verifies that the lacrimal sac has been entered
- Visualization of the internal common punctum ensures that an adequate opening is made into the lacrimal sac
- A Silastic stent is placed
Keep in Mind/Things to Remember:
- Laser is a tool for tissue removal which has both advantages as well as disadvantages
- Important to remove bone anterior to the maxillary line in order to ensure that the entire medial sac is opened
- Revision cases can actually be easier than primary procedures because bone overlying the lacrimal sac has already been removed
