  • Control of epistaxis

 

Highlights:

  • Specific bleeding site is identified with endoscope
  • Suction monopolar cautery or bipolar cautery is used to control bleeding

 

Keep in Mind:

  • Post-ESS bleeding most commonly occurs from a bleeding middle turbinate remnant
  • Spontaneous posterior epistaxis often occurs from a posterior septal vessel which is difficult to visualize with headlight
  •  Extensive cauterization of septum may lead to perforation
